             abstract = "Remote Sensing (RS), together with the Scientific Method, allows 
                         the construction of a focused learning based on observation and 
                         research. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the 
                         contribution of activities, which involved Remote Sensing (RS) and 
                         the Scientific Method, for the improvement of science education 
                         among primary school students. The activities were carried out 
                         with students from 5th and 6th-grades, and were performed at the 
                         Federal University of Santa Catarina Campus Curitibanos 
                         (Curitibanos - SC). Students attended a lecture regarding RS main 
                         topics. Afterwards, they exercised an implementation of practical 
                         activities related to the RS using satellite images. It was 
                         observed that the topics were already part of the students 
                         previous knowledge. Also, it was revealed that the use of 
                         materials produced with RS, as maps used in the activities, or 
                         other educational materials assisted in the learning process. 
                         These RS materials improved students and teachers interest. 
                         Finally, it was concluded that the application of RS as an 
                         interdisciplinary activity, additionally to the scientific method, 
                         allowed into an improvement of students knowledge. Students began 
                         to observe the consequences resulting from land use and land cover 
                         changes. They were able to appoint causes of those changes. They 
                         also proposed ways to work around or avoid situations which 
                         degrade the environment.",
